10 Day's of Thrilling Enjoyment in Southern Ethiopia

Day 1 – Arrival in Addis Ababa

Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, you will be welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel. After some time to rest, we will begin our city tour with a drive to Entoto Mountain, where you will enjoy panoramic views of the capital city.

Next, we will visit the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to the famous fossil remains of the early hominid “Lucy.” We will then continue to the Ethnological Museum, formerly the palace of Emperor Haile Selassie.

To conclude the day, we will visit Merkato, the largest open-air market in East Africa.

Day 2 – Mursi Tribe and Bana Tribe

Early in the morning, we will transfer to Bole International Airport for a flight to Jinka. Upon arrival, we will drive to Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe.

The Mursi are among the most well-known tribes of the Omo Valley and are famous for their unique lip plates. Mursi women traditionally wear large circular clay plates in their lower lips, and the size of the plate is considered a symbol of beauty and social value.

After visiting the Mursi village, we will return for lunch and a short rest before continuing to visit the Bana tribe.

The Bana people are particularly known for the remarkable skill of their young children, who walk effortlessly on tall wooden stilts. Later, we will continue driving to Turmi.

In the evening, you will visit the Hamer tribe, where you will experience their social traditions, colorful clothing, cultural activities, and their unique traditional dance known as the Evangadi Dance.

Day 3 – Dasanech Tribe and Karo Tribe

In the morning, we will drive to Omorate to visit the Dasanech tribe. After crossing the Omo River by traditional canoe boat, we will visit one of the Dasanech villages.

The Dasanech are nomadic pastoralists who live along the Omo River Basin. After lunch in Turmi, we will continue to visit the Karo tribe.

The Karo people are known for their extraordinary body painting traditions. Both men and women decorate their bodies with colorful natural clay patterns and live along the banks of the Omo River.

In the evening, we will return to Turmi.

Day 4 – Konso and Arba Minch

In the morning, we will drive toward Arba Minch with a stop in Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape.

The Konso people are famous for their ancient terraced farming systems, stonework skills, and traditional thatched villages. You will also visit the unique natural rock formations known as the “New York Towers.”

In the afternoon, we will continue driving to Arba Minch.

Day 5 – Lake Chamo and Dorze Village

In the morning, we will drive to Lake Chamo for a boat excursion. During the trip, you may see large crocodiles, hippos, monkeys, baboons, many bird species, and local communities living around the lake.

In the afternoon, we will visit Dorze Village, famous for its unique dance traditions, colorful clothing, traditional musical instruments, and distinctive bamboo houses that resemble elephant faces. The Dorze people are also highly skilled in weaving and traditional handicrafts.

In the evening, we will return to Arba Minch.

Day 6 – Arba Minch Forest and Halala Kela Eco Lodge

Early in the morning, we will explore the beautiful forest area of Arba Minch, known for its natural springs and towering trees. Although it is impossible to visit all forty springs, we will see some of the most beautiful ones.

After the forest visit, we will drive through the breathtaking green landscapes of southern Ethiopia toward Halala Kela Eco Lodge.

Day 7 – Drive to Chebera Churchura National Park

After breakfast, we will drive from Arba Minch to Chebera Churchura National Park. The journey itself is part of the adventure, offering spectacular and diverse landscapes along the way.

In the afternoon, we will arrive at the park area, check into the eco-lodge or campsite, and meet the local ranger or guide who will accompany us during our stay.

You will receive an introduction to the park, its ecosystems, and its wildlife. In the evening, there may be an opportunity for a short nature walk or game drive to observe wildlife during sunset.

Overnight at Chebera Elephant Paw Lodge, Chebera Churchura National Park.

Day 8 – Full-Day Safari in Chebera Churchura National Park

Enjoy a full-day guided safari or nature walk focused on spotting elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and a wide variety of bird species.

We will also explore the Zigna River area and visit some of the park’s unique attractions, including waterfalls, volcanic craters, and hot springs.

In the evening, relax while enjoying the sounds of the wilderness, with an optional short sunset game drive before dinner.

Day 9 – Drive to Jimma and Flight to Addis Ababa

In the morning, enjoy a final short safari or nature walk to observe wildlife and scenic viewpoints that may have been missed during previous days.

After breakfast, we will drive to Jimma and later take an afternoon flight back to Addis Ababa according to the tour schedule.

Overnight at Haile Grand Hotel, Addis Ababa.

 

Day 10 – Departure

According to your international flight schedule, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight home.

A detailed travel agreement will be sent after registration, and guests are kindly requested to read and sign the contract.
